Rodrigo Munoz
Clinical Psychologist
My name is Dr. Rodrigo Munoz, and I’m a clinical psychologist who works with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, substance use, burnout, major life transitions, or several of these challenges at once.
Before moving into private practice, I worked in inpatient settings, outpatient programs, and community-based mental health. These experiences shaped the psychologist I am today. I’ve supported people who were generally doing well but wanted to understand themselves more deeply, as well as people navigating some of the most difficult periods of their lives.
One area of my work that is especially important to me is treating co-occurring disorders, the intersection of mental health concerns and substance use. Anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, and substance use rarely exist in isolation. When several things are happening at once, focusing on only one part of the problem can miss what is actually keeping you stuck. Together, we can look at the full picture and identify changes that can help you move forward.
My style as a psychologist is conversational, active, and straightforward. I listen closely, but I’m not the kind of therapist who plans to sit silently while you do all the talking. I’ll ask thoughtful questions, help you make connections, and sometimes challenge you in ways that support growth. When we identify a pattern that keeps showing up in your life, we’ll work together on practical ways to change it.
I primarily draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, mindfulness-based strategies, and trauma-informed care. However, I don’t believe therapy should feel like following a manual. Different people need different things, and even the same person may need a different approach depending on what they’re going through. The goal is not to fit you into a particular treatment model. The goal is to understand what you need and find an approach that helps you create meaningful, lasting change.
I earned my Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology from California Southern University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. I’m also a Master-Level Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) in New York and hold additional certifications in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, anxiety treatment, and mood disorders.
I currently provide psychological services securely through telehealth and am licensed to practice psychology in New York, Texas, Colorado, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Delaware. Online therapy offers a convenient and private way to receive support, allowing therapy to fit into your real life rather than requiring you to reorganize your life around it.
